Purpose Statement

Bloomington Living Hope Lutheran School is a Pre-K – Grade 8 Christian Education Ministry focused on developing children into lifelong Christians who use the intellectual, physical, and spiritual gifts that God has given them to glorify God in their lives. We praise the Lord for His continued faithfulness and thank Him for decades of raising young Christians rooted in faith. Psalm 71:17-18 reads, “Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come”.

BLH strives to keep the cost of tuition low and ensure that Christian education flourishes, providing all students with opportunities to grow academically and spiritually.  With Christ as the foundation, the intent is that the Eagles Legacy Endowment Fund is a permanent investment in the future of BLH and its commitment to quality Christian education. Funds are invested, rather than used as cash for immediate needs. Earnings from the endowment will help keep tuition low for today and decades to come. The fund is available due to generous donations.  These donations will be invested, and the growth will be used to help the school with costs. Every year, with more donations, God willing, the amount that the school can use will increase.

Mission & Membership

The mission of the Eagles Legacy Endowment Fund is to “declare God’s marvelous deeds, might, and power to the next generation.”  God tells us that we are responsible for teaching our own children the Lord’s marvelous deeds, but we are also responsible for teaching one another’s children how to serve and love the Lord. Therefore, we prayerfully ask you to be a contributing Member of the Eagles Legacy Endowment Fund.

The membership levels are as follows:

  • $100 Silver membership
  • $500 lifetime Gold membership* (must be a one-time gift)
  • $5,000 Legacy membership* (may be split in half with two consecutive annual installments)

*Additional giving options are welcomed, such as scheduled monthly/yearly giving, and would be recognized as a “membership” accordingly.

Eligible Gifts

The Eagles Legacy Endowment Fund is structured around “non‐designated” gifts, which are targeted toward specific asset purchases by the donor. The Fund will aggregate all gifts into a single investment pool from which the annual distributions will be made. The following are examples of the types of gifts that may be made to the Fund:

  • Cash Gifts
  • Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) gifts
  • Memorial Gifts
  • Bequests from Wills or Trusts
  • Transfers of Marketable Securities
  • Life Insurance Proceeds
  • Beneficiary Designation of an IRA or a Retirement Fund
  • Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) from an IRA if you are at least age 70 1/2

Investment Policy

The fund assets will be invested using a diversified mix of funds, including:

  • Short-term funds: Money Markets and other Readily Available Funds
  • WELS Income Fund, WELS Investment Funds, Inc.
  • WELS Equity Fund, WELS Investment Funds, Inc.

Distribution Policy

The Distribution Policy will be the same as the policy for all the Endowment Funds of Bloomington Living Hope and the distribution will be calculated as follows:

  • Each school year beginning July 1, annual distributions will be made to Bloomington Living Hope Lutheran School from the Fund. In each annual period, the total distribution should not exceed 4% of the December 31 Fund balances prior to the July 1 distribution. In order to smooth out distributions in years when the market values are down, a rolling three year average of the December 31 balances will be used once the Endowment Fund is in existence for at least three years. The second year would use a two year average of December 31 balances.
  • The distribution will be further limited to the available “growth” of the Fund which is the value in excess of all gifts (the principal) of the fund on the most recent December 31.
  • The Eagles Legacy Endowment Committee (listed below) will determine the use of the Distribution for the School year.
